Therapy for Founders

Welcome to The Founders Couch

I created The Founders Couch because I am a therapist and a founder and I believe taking care of the person building the business matters just as much as the business itself.

Welcome to The Founders Couch

I didn't create The Founders Couch because I'm a therapist.

I created it because I'm a therapist and a founder.

For more than twenty years, I've experienced both the privilege and the responsibility of building a mission-driven business. Like many entrepreneurs, I wasn't motivated simply by the idea of owning a company. I wanted to solve a problem I cared deeply about. I believed people deserved exceptional mental health care, and I set out to build an organization that reflected those values.

Along the way, I discovered something I never learned in graduate school.

Building a business doesn't just test your strategy.

It changes you.

The Conversation Beneath the Conversation

The longer I owned a business, the more I realized there was a conversation happening beneath the conversations about growth, leadership, marketing, and operations. It was the conversation happening inside the founder.

Am I still building the life I want?

Who am I becoming because of this work?

When does perseverance become self-sacrifice?

How do I make difficult business decisions without losing sight of the values that inspired me to start in the first place?

Those questions became just as important to me as any business strategy.

The Unique Psychology of Purpose-Driven Work

I've come to believe there's a unique psychological experience that comes with entrepreneurship and mission-driven work.

When your work is deeply connected to your purpose, your creativity, or the vision you feel called to bring into the world, you're not simply making business decisions or managing projects. You're investing pieces of yourself. Your business, your practice, your book, your art, your nonprofit, or your company becomes an expression of your values, your identity, and the difference you hope to make.

That's what makes this work so meaningful.

It's also what makes it emotionally complex.

I don't believe the challenge is ambition itself. I believe the challenge is that when your work is deeply connected to your purpose, your identity, and your values, the emotional stakes become very different.

Success feels deeply personal.

So does disappointment.

Every difficult decision carries emotional weight because it isn't just about the business. It's about your relationships, your integrity, your sense of purpose, and the person you're becoming along the way.

Sometimes the business decisions that make perfect sense on paper come at a cost that never appears on a balance sheet.

That's where I believe mental health deserves a seat at the table.

It's Not Just About Stress

One of the biggest misconceptions about entrepreneurship is that founders simply experience more stress than everyone else. I don't think that's quite true.

The difference isn't just longer hours or greater responsibility.

It's that the work itself often becomes intertwined with identity.

When things go well, the work feels deeply fulfilling.

When things become difficult, it's easy to question yourself instead of simply questioning the strategy.

As both a therapist and a founder, I've seen how easily capable, thoughtful people begin measuring their worth by the health of the business they're building.

That's rarely the conversation happening in boardrooms, business books, or on social media.

But it's one of the most important conversations we can have.

What You'll Find Here

The Founders Couch isn't another website about scaling your business, maximizing productivity, or building a seven-figure company. There are many talented people doing that work, and I genuinely respect what they offer.

That's simply not what you'll find here.

I'm not a business coach.

I'm a licensed therapist who also happens to be a founder.

Everything I write is informed by years of helping individuals and couples navigate life's most meaningful relationships, alongside my own experience of building, leading, adapting, grieving, and reinventing a mission-driven business.

The qualities that allow someone to create meaningful work vision, passion, creativity, perseverance, curiosity, and a willingness to care deeply are often the very qualities that leave them vulnerable to burnout, perfectionism, loneliness, decision fatigue, relationship strain, and tying their self-worth too closely to what they've built.

My hope isn't to help you become a different entrepreneur, leader, or artist.

It's to help you build meaningful work while staying connected to yourself.

What I've Learned Along the Way

Looking back, I can see that many of the experiences I would never have chosen became the ones that shaped me most. They challenged my assumptions, deepened my understanding of leadership, clarified my values, and taught me that resilience isn't always about pushing harder.

Sometimes resilience means adapting.

Sometimes it means grieving a version of success that no longer fits.

Sometimes it means allowing yourself to become someone new without abandoning the reason you started in the first place.

Those are the conversations I want to have here.

We'll explore entrepreneur mental health, founder burnout, identity, relationships, perfectionism, creativity, leadership, purpose, resilience, grief, and the emotional realities of building something that matters. We'll talk honestly about the psychological side of entrepreneurship because I believe taking care of the founder is every bit as important as building the business.

You're Welcome Here

Whether you're launching your first company, growing a private practice, writing a book, creating art, leading a nonprofit, or building work that's deeply connected to your purpose, I hope you'll find something here that reminds you of one simple truth:

Your work matters.

Your vision matters.

But the person carrying that vision matters just as much.

Welcome to The Founders Couch.

I'm glad you're here.
